Michael John Poirier To Present Concert at Our Lady of Lourdes on Thursday, November 14
Catholic Recording Artist Michael John Poirier will present a concert atOur Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Punxsutawney, PA on Thursday, November 14 at 7 PM.  The concert is open to all ages and is a great opportunity for families to enjoy an uplifting evening together of songs and stories for the soul.  [Singing publicly since the age of 14, Michael pursued a career in pop music for several years before God's gentle nudging to return to prayer became a burning desire to put his “gut” prayers to music.]  Michael has spent the past twenty years spreading the message of God's infinite love and timeless mercy, recording thirteen CD’s and offering parish missions and concerts, often centered on Eucharistic Adoration.  His latest CD, Be With Us Today, was released in January 2006 and was recently honored with a Unity Award as the Devotional Album of the Year.  [Be With Us Today Project Manager Ron Rendek of World Library Publications says, “Michael’s natural sense of melody and his insightful, thought-provoking words shine through here, touching the heart and raising the spirit.”]  A free will offering will be taken in lieu of admission.  CD's will be available for sale after the concert.  Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church is located at 714 2nd Avenue: from Highway 36, turn north on Hampton Avenue (US 119) and then left on Elk Run Avenue (PA-310) For more information, contact the Parish Office, (814 555-2135.

Press Release Distribution
Checklist & Tips for Success
1.

Proof your press release carefully before sending. Ask that someone else review the work for accuracy, grammar and spelling.  We do our best to review the material we send you but it is easy for small errors to fly under the radar, particularly as it relates to your community, directions to your location and even phrasing that might have differing local or regional interpretation.

2. Be sure that your Pastor or parish administrator is aware that you are communicating on behalf of the parish!  This awareness should have been sought when the event was booked on our calendar and yours but it never hurts to present a copy in advance of distribution.
3. Send the press release via e-mail to all local secular and diocesan papers, to Catholic radio stations and to any broadcast, cable or radio outlet that feature a community calendar.  You can also request that the release be run nationally on the Catholic PRWire by submitting the release here: Submit Press Release.
4. Include a promotional photo from the group at right noting that it is a High Resolution (300 DPI) JPG.
5. Specify that either:
  • the editor is free to edit for space or,
  • that the editor must contact you for permission to edit.
6. State that interviews with Mr. Poirier - along with a complete biography - are available upon request.  Direct requests through:

Joe Elbow
Executive Director
Holy Family Apostolate

Tips For Effective Press Release Distribution
1.

It is very easy to find contact information for publications:

2. You will have better success in placement if you submit the release and photo directly to a particular newspaper rather than going through a paid wire service.
  • Your chances increase when you follow-up by phone and even further when you directly contact the Religion Editor or beat writer.
3. When sending to multiple resources, put their addresses in the bcc: line of your e-mail editor to avoid the appearance of a chain mail.
4. When building your list of possible contacts, save their address in a group so that you can easily send additional copies of the release as the event draws close.
5. When sending the bulletin announcement or press release to other parishes, check with your diocese to see if they have a fax distribution system that will "blast" the announcement to all Diocesan parishes.
  • Typically, you can work through the Office of Family Life or similar.
  • This is not only a huge time saver but it ensures accurate fax numbers and some level of cooperation above what you will get independently!
  • Always specify that the Parish may edit for space.
  • NOTE: Many parishes still do not have e-mail or web site capabilities so fax distribution is generally most effective.
6. For your parish and ones in close proximity, send an additional copy of your press release or bulletin announcement via e-mail to make the bulletin editor's job easier.
  • You can often look up the e-mail contact for a particular parish by going to your Diocesean web page, looking for the parish web site under parish directories and then finding a listing of the staff directory and e-mail address(es) or by clicking on the "Contact Us" link.
